Grading Policy

KLA Science Students are expected to be Problem Solvers. A Science Journal will be provided and students should have their computers but, students should still come to class with sharpened/ mechanical pencils, extra paper, scissors, glue sticks, markers, etc... Luck favors the prepared.

Science grades are based on the following Scientific practices:

1. Problem Solving (35% of overall grade)
- Assignments in this category will include but are not limited to; Class-participation, hands-on projects, in-class activities, etc.
2. Evaluating Data (25% of overall grade):
- Assignments in this category will include but are not limited to; Tests, quizzes, formative and summative assessments
3. Drawing Conclusions (20% of overall grade):
- Assignments in this category will include but are not limited to; Homework, take-home assignments, packets, etc.

4. Communicating Findings (10% of overall grade):

- Assignments in this category will include but are not limited to; In-class projects, enrichment assignments, etc…

 

Please note:

  • The Science Department’s gradebooks are points-based; Points are earned for progress towards goals and completion of tasks and projects.
  • Semester grades are a cumulative grade of the three six-week grades and reflect eighteen weeks worth of work
 
Make-up Work:
 

Students are expected to make up all work missed due to absences. Class-work and assignments are posted regularly to Google Classroom and the KLA Teacher websites.  Students are encouraged to check these resources before asking the teacher what they missed.

Grading Scale.
A = 90 –100%
B = 80 – 89%
C = 70 – 79%
D = 60 – 69%
F = 55 – 59%
