Course Description

Geometry Connections is a college preparatory mathematics course. It emphasizes several big ideas in an integrated algebra/geometry context. The key concepts addressed in this course are:

Transformations (reflection, rotation, translation, dilation) and symmetry
Relationships between figures
Properties and measurements of plane figures
Measurements of three-dimensional shapes
Tools for analyzing and measuring shapes
Investigation and proof (having found patterns, students conjecture and prove)
Geometric construction (with compass and straightedge)
Algebra (a significant review of writing and solving equations and graphing)
Probability

The course is structured around problems and investigations that build spatial visualization skills, conceptual understanding of geometry topics, and an awareness of connections between different ideas. Algebra is weaved throughout the course and reviewed on a continuous basis. Students are supported through hotmath.com, which provides step-by-step solutions of how to solve homework problems. The objective of this course is to provide students with a foundation for the study of Algebra 2 and trigonometry.

Supplies
It is mandatory that each student has and brings all supplies daily.
Ruler
Protractor
Binder
A spiral graphing notebook
Notebook paper
Pencil/Pens (black or blue ink only)

Grading Policy

Tests 45%

Students should expect a test approximately every three to four weeks. Students will be notified in advance of the test date. A mock test will be given twice a year to prepare students for CST testing.

Homework 15%

Homework will be given on a daily basis. Homework assignments will be graded for effort, and accuracy. Work needs to be shown for each problem to receive full credit. If you do not understand a problem then write what you don't understand about the problem.

Classwork/Projects 30%

Classwork consists of a spiral notebook which should contain Quick Questions, notes, and classwork all sectioned off. Projects consist of a standards based assignment which will often culminate with an oral presentation.

Quizzes 10%

Team tests, quizzes, and exit slips all fall under this category. Team tests are designed to be taken with a team and therefore will not be allowed to be made up.

Semester Grade
A comprehensive final will be given at the end of each semester. The final will be counted as a test grade.

Grading Scale
100%-90% A
89%-80% B
