Independent  Practice:

First Read  - Read the letter underline anything interesting

Second Read - Write down details that you notice about the letter.

Third Read- Annotate the Letter with graphic organizer -What each paragraph says/What I can write in my letter.

Homework: Students read letter to parents and parents sign off.





Wednesday (8/31/16)

Purpose:

  • How do effective writers create JOT about a main character?

 

Engagement:

  • Macklemore Video - “Wings”
  • How has the main character changed?

 

Minilesson:

  • What’s in a JOT?
    • Original thought or Question
    • Support from the text
    • Why is it important?
    • Making a connection

Read Aloud:

Independent:

  • Students will write a JOT about the main character in the Macklemore video
  • Students will write their JOTS on a sticky note that will be collected at the end of class
  • Students will make an outline for their letters.
