8th Grade Integrated 1 Math CPM Syllabus

Welcome to 8th grade math! In 8th grade students will experience math in a variety of ways and learn to apply concepts to real life situations. The curriculum that we will be exploring is Integrated Math 1, CPM,  and other curriculum online. It is imperative that students complete ALL of their classwork and homework in order to develop their individual skills. Students will be expected to work in small groups and partnerships. In order for students to be successful learners there will be a strong emphasis on community and team building skills.

Tutoring

In order to provide extra assistance tutoring will be offered during REACH, 6th period. Students will have the opportunity to explore challenging concepts and correct tests or quizzes for an improved score. Students will be encouraged to complete community service hours by mentoring other 8th grade students during regular tutoring hours Tuesday from 2:50 to 3:30pm.

Supplies

It is mandatory for each student to have the following supplies every day:

• 5 pencils and pencil sharpener with catch (extra lead if using a mechanical pencil)
• Math graph notebook, loose leaf paper, and graph paper

Homework

Homework will be assigned daily . Please check your child’s agenda nightly as the homework assignments will be written in them each week on Monday for the whole week. Homework assignments are also posted on the KLA website under the Homework section.

Grading Scale 

A 85-100%, B 75-84%, C 65-74%, D 55-64%, F 54% and below

 Category/ Percentage

Class work 25%, Projects 10%, CPA 1%

Individual Tests 59%, Homework 5%

Classroom Rules/Expectations

To have a safe learning environment and a successful year, it is important that all students follow the classroom rules. The classroom/school rules will be discussed in depth the first week of school. Each student has signed a contract indicating that he/she understands the rules set forth.
