Cougar Academy is a single comprehensive after school hours program consisting of the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) and the Afterschool Education and Safety program (ASES) at Keiller Leadership Academy.
Cougar Academy is a voluntary use program. KLA works diligently to accommodate and serve working families in need of before and after school care as well as in the Summer and during intersessions. In addition, Cougar Academy also serves as an opportunity for families to participate in sports, extracurricular classes and club activities that are outside of the regular school day hours. A student's enrollment at KLA does not guarantee them Cougar Academy enrollment. Separate enrollment is required to participate in the Cougar Academy program. As a growing program, limitations that factor into the enrollment capacity may prohibit the acceptance of additional students at any given time.
This Handbook will serve as your reference guide for our program. In order to operate a high-quality program focusing on the needs of all of our children it is important that we adhere to certain guidelines, policies and procedures. The contents of this Handbook and our Cougar Academy practices may be changed at any time to meet the safety and needs of children.
The mission of Cougar Academy at Keiller Leadership Academy is to provide expanded learning opportunities for all KLA leaders in a happy, healthy, and safe environment so that children develop their social, emotional and physical skills.Cougar Academy is staffed by qualified leadership and trained program leaders who provide a comprehensive program of developmentally appropriate activities.
Parents are responsible for reading the entire KLA Cougar Academy Parent Handbook prior to enrolling their child as a student in the program. A digital copy of the handbook is available on the KLA website www.mykla.org. A hard copy is also available by request and can be picked up at the KLA office.
After School Program Priority: First priority shall go to pupils who are identified by the program as homeless youth, as defined by the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. Sec. 11434a), at the time that they apply for enrollment or at any time during the school year, to pupils who are identified by the program as being in foster care, and to pupils who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals
