Letter of Introduction

Hello students, parents, and community members!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 academic school year!

My name is Vanessa Loke and I will be teaching REACH ELD (6th-7th), Journalism/Yearbook (7th-8th), and co-teaching the Video Game Art & Design (7th-8th) classes. This will be my 6th year working alongside a wonderful and inspiring group of educators. I not only have had the privilege of working at KLA, but I also attended KLA as a student before it became a charter school back in 2005. During this time, I was one of Mrs. Sartain’s students when she was an English Language Arts teacher. As a cougar alumni, my goal is to help students discover a passion for learning as well as develop a growth mindset in order for them to become leaders in our diverse community.

KLA has given me the opportunity to experience both sides of the education system; as a student, and now as an educator. In addition to this experience, I also have my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Criminal Justice, which I received at Argosy University-San Diego. I also decided to further my education by attending National University to pursue my Masters in Inspiring Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Social Emotional Learning alongside getting my Single-Subject Teaching Credential in English Language Arts. Lastly, my experience growing up and attending inner-city schools in the area (Audubon Elementary, Keiller Middle School, and Morse Senior High School) has allowed me to be mindful of the students, their personal growth and acknowledge their experiences within the community. With this, I am able to understand my students at a more personal level and their environment in which they come from.

As an educator at KLA, I focus on developing my professional growth in order to implement modifications and accommodations for my students who are English Learners, students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504’s and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). The greatest thing to experience at KLA is to see my students grow as individuals throughout their years here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to schedule an appointment with me after school at (619) 263-9266 ext. 2035 or reach out to me anytime via email at [email protected]. I will do my best to get back to your as soon as possible.

I look forward to working with each and every one of you!
