Quick Questions:

**Turn & talk w/ a partner about your responses to your quick questions.

Hand out student agendas and review student agenda expectations using the student agenda rubric.

 Warm Up:

Walk through the different parts of the agenda

1) Student Agenda Scavenger Hunt with a partner

2) Go over responses to the scavenger hunt

 

Homework:

Read the student handbook in the agenda.

9/4 A letter to and from Mrs. Sartain

Quick Questions:
1. What have you learned so far about KLA this week?
2.  What is the purpose of writing a letter?
3.  What do you know about a Do/What Chart?
 
**Discuss with class each question
 
Warm up:
Read Mrs. Sartain's letter to yourself.
 
Writing Task:
**Create a Do/What chart**
1.  Write a multi-paragraph letter to Mrs. Sartain
2.  Respond to the question, "Are you up for the challenge to be a KLA leader?"
3.  Explain what kind of leader you are right now
4.  Reflect on what you learned this week at KLA
5.  Share what you looking forward to this year at KLA
6.  Offer comments, questions, compliments, or feedback that you have for Mrs. Sartain
7.  Do this on a separate sheet of paper
 
Submit your letter to your REACH teacher.  Your REACH teacher will be turning this in to Mrs. Sartain.

9/3 How do KLA leaders reflect on their own leadership skills?

Quick Questions:

1)  What do you know about your strengths and weaknesses in academics?

2)  On a scale of 1 to 5, how strong of a leader are you?

 

Organization:

Student binder checks

Warm Up:

Introduce the binder rubric - Have students discuss the purpose of having a binder.

Leadership Studies:

1) Explain to students that they will be asked to complete this REACH Reflection several times this year.  This reflection will be used to measure growth and monitor progress in terms of demonstrating leadership.  It is important that we are honest and show integrity when completing this survey because teachers will have access to their students' reflections and they will be comparing their observations with their students' with responses.

2) Preview the REACH Reflection form- check for understanding and answer questions before students begin.  Students should jot down unfamiliar words and ask for clarification.

3) Have students fill out the REACH Reflection electronically.  

9/2 How do KLA leaders understand the importance of the KLA Way?

Quick Questions:

1) What did you learn yesterday about the KLA Way?

2) What do you know about the KLA mission statement?

 

Warm Up:

Review the KLA Schoolwide Rules

Do a sort activity- Match each rule (cut out strips) with one of the following: "Respect the staff"; "Respect the students"; "Respect the Environment"

Discuss/debrief how each rule represents the first REACH value- "Respect"

Leadership Studies:

PREVIEWING THE KLA MISSION STATEMENT:

1) Chart shared responses - What is the purpose of a mission statement?

2) What do we already know about the KLA mission statement?

3) Read mission statement 

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:

Working in pairs,chunk the mission statement into three parts:

1) create student leaders

2) value education

3) embrace their role

Have students chart what each chunk looks and sounds like

Pairs practice reciting the mission statement.

 

Homework:

Remind students to turn in parent signature school wide rules agreement.
